recommends pilots adopt the newer phraseology for declaring an
emergency, which is "requesting priority handling." He believes
pilots are reluctant to declare an emergency, as it suggests that
what went wrong was their fault. The newer phraseology results in
the same service provided by ATC; they'll still ask for souls on
board, and fuel remaining, and you can still deviate as needed, but
you don't need to say the words "I'm declaring an emergency."
